Sexual violence can be a traumatic experience for many survivors. This presentation will provide some basic information on trauma and its impacts on the brain and memory. This presentation will also touch on the social context of sexual violence and the shame, blame and guilt that some survivors experience after sexual violence, as well as the differences, similarities and impacts of childhood trauma and trauma in adulthood.
Moravia de la O and Carissa Ball, of the Regina Sexual Assault Centre, will help viewers gain greater understanding about trauma and how to work from a trauma-informed approach in their efforts to assist and support survivors of sexual violence.
