CPD 329 - Gray Area Thinking with Ellie Krug
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion • 2h 1m
Qualifies for 2.0 CPD Hours, all of which qualify for Ethics.
Today, each one of us will unconsciously categorize, catalogue and group others who appear “different” from “us”. It's human nature. Lawyers, especially, learn to notice and critique differences quickly. This often leads to black and white thinking, as in “we” versus “them” or “good” versus “bad” or “Canadian” versus “immigrant” or “newcomer” and many other isolating labels. It impacts our work, our work product, our work environment and our profession – a profession that impacts directly how just and inclusive our world is.
So, how do we move beyond this? How do we create the inclusion and compassion we want to see in our profession and in the world around us? To find out, join national speaker Ellen (Ellie) Krug, for her Gray Area Thinking™ human inclusivity training. She provides a clear, easy-to-follow toolset for moving beyond our insider/outsider thoughts and fears.
In 2009, at the age of fifty-two, Ellie – then a civil trial attorney in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, transitioned from male to female. She was the first Iowa lawyer to transition genders and one of the few attorneys nationally to try a jury case in the other gender. Transitioning genders gave Ellie the opportunity for a “do-over”, which has included working to make the world fairer and more inclusive for all humans, particularly those considered “Other.”
