Participants will receive an introduction to identifying trauma in clients and witnesses, strategy considerations which accommodate trauma, and an introduction to cultural humility particularly in the context of working with and serving Indigenous populations, as a foundation for trauma informed legal practice. The session includes an introduction to vicarious trauma as commonly experienced by lawyers, vicarious resilience and resilience building strategies.
Presenter: Myrna McCallum is an Indigenous lawyer and the host of "The Trauma-Informed Lawyer" Podcast. She is a former prosecutor and adjudicator. In 2020, the Federal Department of Justice awarded Myrna their first ever Excellence in Legal Practice and Victim Support Award. Myrna lives and works in North Vancouver, BC.
