"In June 2015 the Truth and Reconciliation Commission released 94 Calls to Action as they relate to the ongoing impacts of residential schools in Canada. TRC Call to Action #34 focuses on the impacts of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) on the justice system. The Canadian FASD Research Network created a Report titled “Truth & Reconciliation Call to Action #34: A Framework to Action” to assist with bringing about much needed changes in the justice system to improve outcomes for individuals with FASD. The Framework for Action discusses the need to offer enhanced training and supports to frontline justice professionals who are working with people that have complex and challenging needs in the courts.
This one-hour training session will include a summary of:
- The TRC Framework for Action
- Summary and information about FASD
- How FASD presents itself in the justice system and broader context(s)
- Proven practices and strategies to work more effectively with clients
Webinar presented by Carly Romanow (ProBono Law Society) and Dr. Michelle Stewart (University of Regina)."
